Week 2 of this base building block was the same as week 1 with 3 40 minute easy pace except the long run this week was 1 hour 40 minutes at 9:13-10:32 per mile. Both of the first two runs this week got pushed back a day with life getting in the way.
Run 1 on Wednesday saw me cover 4.42 miles at a pace of 9:03 per mile. The pace started creeping too fast towards the end of the 3rd mile and I wasn’t really thinking about the pace too much and ended up running the 4th mile in 8:30.
The second run this week was much better from a pacing point of view. I covered 4.36 miles at 9:10 per mile. The pacing was much better with just the last mile creeping a bit faster than the target pace.
Saturdays run was the best of the block so far, all a week and a half of it so far 😂. It was much more consistent than any of the other runs from a pacing point. The only mile faster than the target pace was the second one which was just a touch quicker. I covered 4.35 miles at 9:12 per mile. The mile splits were 9:14, 9:01, 9:16, 9:16 and the last 0.35 of a mile was at 9:10 per mile pace. Probably the biggest achievement for me in this run was how under control my heart rate was.
Sundays long run was miserable. The run itself was ok, but the weather did not play ball. It was very wet, pretty breezy and I didn’t pick the best route as the last couple of miles consisted of a big hill. I covered 10.4 miles at 9:37 pace and to be perfectly honest was delighted it was over.
